La Campana National Park - Summit trek

The only National Park in the continental 5th region.

Natural view point from where you will watch the Pacific Ocean and Mt. Aconcagua, the highest of America.

Location: Granizo, Olmué. 1 hour from Valparaiso.

Altitude: 6.168 feet / 1.880 meters a.s.l.

Elevation gain: 4.856 feet / 1.480 meters

Distance: 8.7 miles / 14 kilometers, round trip

Length: 12 hrs – from 7:00am to 7:00 pm

Hiking time: 6 – 8 hours

Season: Summit, from September to May. From June to August just to the mine (4.150 feet a.s.l.)

Meteorological conditions: Mediterranean weather, rains from May to August, around 500 mm.

Restrictions: Good health, no knee injuries, over 12 years old.

Previous experience: Desirable. Not necessary. Excellent physical condition.

Description & target: Hiking from the main entrance to the top by the El Alpinista trail, what It takes about 5 hours. Birds and reptiles watching, eventually foxes and rodents. The summit is a natural view point from where you can watch the ocean and the mount Aconcagua, the higher one of America. The last third is steep, rocky and expose to sun, and you will need hiking poles and even some crawls. About 3 hours way back.

Departure: Hotel (in Valparaíso - Viña del Mar) at 7:00 am

Return trip: Way back there can be traffic delays, so please note this.
